Black Friday 2012: Impending Doom or Savings Success?

The upcoming Black Friday 2012 will be most interesting indeed. If you think you had a wild and crazy experience, then check out these black friday stories.

Black Friday Story #1

We had been wanting to get a new flat screen tv for the family room. with the super bowl just around the corner we began comparing prices at all the stores. Best Buy offered the lowest price of 60% off on a 47 inch screen quality tv on black friday. The family was so excited!

we got in a line that wound around most of the building. We made a mad dash for the tv department and claimed our special find. We put the tv on a rolling cart then went through check out. while passing through the exit door we heard the little security beep. I looked around but no one seemed interested so we pushed on to the back of the parking lot where our van stood. as we were loading our prized possession, we heard running feet coming towards us and then we were surrounded by flashing lights from three police cars.

I was commanded to drop on the pavement then was handcuffed. When I protested I was told to shut up as I was roughly escorted across the lot, through the store to the back room security office. I was charged with stealing the television. I told the officer to check my back pocket where he found the receipt. Everyone in the room was red faced and full of apologies for the mistake but my face was the reddest of all, with rage.

We love our new flat screen and can’t wait for the super bowl game but we won’t be going to any more black friday events, no matter how good the bargains.

Black Friday Story #2

I live in Milwaukee…snow country, in winter. We shovel it, we drive in it, and we play in it. our family: me, tom Sr, my wife Jill, my son Tommy, and my daughter Lisa enjoy lots of snow sports; from skiing to ice skating to sledding. but our fondest memories are of tobogganing down a long fast hill; the whole family on our special hand-me-down toboggan from grandpa.

However, after several years of exciting use, last winter brought about the demise of the old faithful family toboggan. We were making our last run that late afternoon when we hit a hidden rock which split it wide open like a knife through a ripe watermelon. sadly, it was beyond repair.

Wegmens store advertised a quality but rare toboggan to be sold starting “black friday”. The entire family thought it would be fun to camp-out by the store the night before. we pitched a tent in the parking lot, climbed into our bedrolls, and dreamt of slick sledding hills. But an unpredicted blizzard hit just before midnight. our tent roof was ripped so that it would load up with snow until it could hold no more, then would dump the load on us. This went on for hours until we were soaked, wet, and miserable. We finally got up in the dark and cold to return to our warm house just as the crowd was entering the store.

We missed out on the toboggan and with the memory of that terrible night still in our minds, we aren’t sure if we will ever play in the snow again.

Black Friday Story #3

My 5 year old niece loves Barbi dolls. she is crazy about them, but has never had her very own doll. so secretly, as her favorite aunt, i promised to give her favorite Barbi to her for Christmas. i could not afford to pay full price so my little sister and i planned a “black Friday” trip to toys r us. knowing the popularity of barbies, we left home at 9pm on Thursday night to stand in line. being two young defenseless females, i took my miniature canister of pepper spray in my purse as protection against the weirdos in line.

The crowds were larger than we expected so we had to hang out all night in line far from the store entrance. finally, the doors opened and eventually we got inside. we pushed and shoved our way to the girls’ doll section. there were about 12 or 13 people in front of the Barbi dolls and over the heads of shoppers i could see there were only 5 dolls high on the shelf. my sister and i had gotten separated in the crush so i reached in my purse to pull out my phone to call her to see if she was closer to the dolls than i.

My thumb accidentally (really?) hit the pepper spray plunger and a volcano of toxic fumes exploded past my hand and arm into the air.

I hollered “look out!!!” just as the shoppers were hit with the spray all around me. i put a hanky over my mouth and nose while ducking forward toward the dolls. when i stood up i was alone looking at the last Barbi on the shelf. i grabbed it and ran to checkout. and that is how my niece got her first Barbi doll (and why i am her favorite aunt).

What will Black Friday 2012 bring? Care to make some predictions? What do you think will occur around the country or in your own neighborhood shopping center on the upcoming black friday 2012?
